This year at 8:52am on June 2nd we welcomed our first child, a little girl to the world, weighing 8lbs 11ozs. Even though we didn’t have a strict birth plan, her birth couldn’t have been further from what I had expected. That’s a whole other story, that’ll I’ll probably never write… Thankfully there wasn’t too many complications along the way and she was born healthy and I healed surprisingly quickly.
So, without further ado, I’d love you all to meet Emi-Marie. – Emi for short.
Throughout my pregnancy we have switched the name we thought we would call her more times than I can even remember. One day we were sitting listening to Eminem’s song ‘River’, when Emi popped into my head. Both myself and Nathaniel, Emi’s dad, are huge Eminem fans – and funnily enough the night we conceived her we had been to see Eminem perform at Leeds Festival, so it worked perfectly for us. That was also the weekend we got engaged! Talk about a magical weekend.
Marie was originally set to be her middle name, but the day before registering her I decided to make it double barrel. Her second name is also double barrel and I think it sounds really sweet. The Aristocats is my favourite Disney movie and I always wanted a white cat to name after Marie, the kitten in the film. This was all before I though I could, or would, ever have children. When we found out Emi was a girl I really wanted to incorporate Marie and I think Emi-Marie is such a beautiful name (for an equally as beautiful little girl).
She is the sweetest and most pleasant little baby ever! Anyone who meets her has their heart melted in seconds. Half of the time she’s smiling the most gorgeous of smiles and the rest of the time she is talking (shouting) her head off. She’s very chatty, what she says aren’t words yet, but it’s very close and you can see how hard she is trying.
Her first couple of weeks were a difficult adjustment time, but we quickly managed to get her into a routine and she sleeps all night through now. We are grateful because she has been sleeping through since around 3 weeks old and she is rather heavy sleeper, which is great because we are hardly ever quiet in our house.
Emi-Marie has so many teddies, but one of her favourite is this Elephant my dad bought her from Knowsley Safari Park. The inside has a gentle rattle inside, which she prefers over the tinny sound some others make. One of her other favourites is muslins, she likes to have one to hold on to constantly. Once we noticed how often she was snuggling them we purchased her these special ones from Aden and Anais. I’m so glad we did, as they are much softer and longer lasting than any others she has. Plus the design on them is beautiful.
We couldn’t be happier with our sweet girl and can’t wait to see her personality grow even more than it already has.
